Abstract
Motor evoked potential (MEP) is commonly used for monitoring the integrity of neurologic pathways during spine surgery. Tongue bite injury is a rare complication of neurophysiologic monitoring with MEP monitoring. We report a case of a patient who had tongue bite injury after spine surgery with MEP monitoring even with continuous infusion of neuromuscular blocking agents and use of soft bite block. It is important to prevent tongue bite injury during MEP monitoring, the use of soft bite block in the correct placement and periodic placement checks during surgery.
